Dozens of shipping containers fall into ocean at Port of Long Beach
A cargo ship at the Port of Long Beach was involved in what appears to be an accident that caused a significant mess in the ocean on Tuesday morning. Aerial footage taken around 10:30 a.m. revealed numerous shipping containers in the water near the port. The ship in question, named the "Mississippi," had arrived at Long Beach from southern China within the 24 hours prior to the incident. The cause of the collapse is still unknown as of 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, according to Port of Long Beach spokesperson Art Marroquin. Approximately 67 containers fell into the ocean, as reported by the U.S. Coast Guard. The incident resulted in striking visuals of containers tipping over on the Mississippi, with some spilling onto a smaller vessel. The contents of the containers remain undisclosed at this time. The Pier G container terminal's operations have been halted temporarily while responders work on securing the containers, as per Marroquin. Further information is yet to be provided.
