Downtown crash injures four on 4th Avenue
The Tucson Police Department and Tucson Fire Department responded to an incident on Saturday involving a collision between two Sun Link streetcars on 4th Avenue near 8th Street. The streetcars crashed and derailed, resulting in four individuals being transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The collision occurred when one driver attempted a turn without confirming the rail had switched tracks and then tried to stop before hitting the other streetcar, according to police. A federal agency has contacted Sun Tran to conduct further investigation. Specialized equipment will be required to reset and remove the derailed streetcars. Fourth Avenue will likely remain closed at least until Sunday morning while the investigation is ongoing. KGUN 9 has reached out to Sun Tran for additional details.
