Dog on leash dragged through streets by SUV; Driver claims 'horrible accident,' official says

A man in eastern San Diego County turned himself in after a disturbing video circulated showing him dragging his dog behind his SUV. The man, identified as Joseph Holland, was quickly located after the video was released by authorities and shared on social media and local news. Holland has been arrested on animal cruelty charges, and the case has been handed over to the county district attorney’s office for further investigation. The director of San Diego County Animal Services, Vaughn Maurice, expressed deep sadness over the incident and thanked the community for their support in identifying the perpetrator. The dog, a Doberman pinscher who was later euthanized due to the injuries sustained, was dragged for several minutes before witnesses were able to intervene. Holland claimed it was an accident, stating that he had tied the dog to his vehicle and forgot about him when he drove off. The authorities are still gathering evidence in the case, and the district attorney’s office is yet to decide on any potential charges.
