CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man is dead and two people are hurt after fleeing from officers before crashing into a car and then a tree in north Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Around 11:45 p.m. on Friday, April 25, officers saw a Dodge Challenger without lights driving at a high rate of speed. CMPD said officers turned their lights on and attempted a traffic stop, but did not engage in a vehicle pursuit. Shortly after the driver failed to stop, they collided with a GMC Sierra, lost control, and then hit a tree on Old Statesville Road. The driver of the Dodge, 31-year-old Albert Alexander, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The driver of the GMC and the front-seat passenger of the Dodge were taken to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Investigators the speed of the Dodge was a contributing factor in the crash.
