Devastating accident: Drunk boater at Harris Lake crashes, leading to fatal accident.

A man from Moore County in New Hill, North Carolina, was found to be operating a boat while under the influence and crashed it, leading to a tragic incident at Shearon Harris Lake. The accident occurred near the Cross Point Access Area and involved the death of a 10-year-old girl who was swimming, Brooklyn Mae Carroll. The man, Quinten Gregory Kight from Vass, was charged with driving while impaired on a motor boat and a felony offense related to wildlife and marine activities. The tragedy resulted in severe injuries to an adult woman, who had to undergo the amputation of her left leg above the knee and be airlifted for treatment. The incident involved the man driving a Tige Wake Boat and pulling an inner tube which collided with a group of swimmers. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is actively investigating the incident. Boaters in the area expressed shock and disbelief at the occurrence, emphasizing the importance of vigilance while operating a boat, especially when recreational activities are happening in the water. Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson called the accident preventable and highlighted the devastating consequences of impaired boating, urging everyone to prioritize safety and avoid mixing alcohol with watercraft operation. The community is mourning the loss of the young girl and the critical injury of the woman involved in the tragic incident. Kight is set to appear in court in late September.
