Detroit man pleads guilty for fatal Macomb County crash in stolen Jeep at 17

More than four years after allegedly stealing a Jeep and causing a deadly crash during a police pursuit, a suspect has pleaded no contest. Angelo Rickey Smith, now 21, from Detroit, appeared in court and entered his plea to several charges including second-degree homicide, first-degree fleeing and eluding, breaking and entering with intent, and larceny. This incident occurred when Smith and three others broke into a car dealership and stole vehicles, leading to a high-speed chase reaching speeds over 130 mph. The pursuit culminated in a crash that resulted in the tragic death of a young woman. Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido emphasized the gravity of the situation, expressing the need for accountability to prevent such devastating outcomes in the future. Smith's sentencing is scheduled for September 4th.
