Details of events leading up to accident that claimed the life of football player Mason Alexander.
In a tragic event that led to the loss of Mason Alexander, a Hamilton Southeastern High School graduate and future Pitt football player, the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office has made a request to move a teenager involved in the fatal car crash to adult court. If the transfer is approved, the teen could face charges of reckless homicide, reckless driving, and possession of fake government identification. The prosecutor's office expressed their condolences to Alexander's loved ones and highlighted their commitment to seeking justice in a manner that honors his memory. The incident took place on Florida Road near Geist Park on March 1 when the suspect, driving a 2016 white BMW, tried to overtake another vehicle, resulting in a collision with a tree that caused a fire, taking Alexander's life. Reports indicated that the suspect confessed to speeding at 56 mph in a 35 mph zone at the time of the crash and attempting the dangerous pass despite the risky conditions. Eyewitnesses described the driving behavior as dangerously reckless. The suspect will face a delinquency hearing later this week, as the community continues to demand justice for the loss of Alexander.
