Derrick Thompson convicted in crash that claimed 5 women's lives

In a tragic Minneapolis crash that resulted in the deaths of five young women in June 2023, Derrick Thompson, the son of a former Minnesota lawmaker, was found guilty on all 15 charges, including murder. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office is set to issue a statement on the verdict on Friday afternoon. Thompson faces multiple charges such as third-degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide for the incident. The collision involved a Cadillac Escalade that was speeding at 95 mph and ultimately collided with a Honda Accord carrying the victims. Despite initially denying involvement, evidence including blood matching Thompson found in the driver's seat linked him to the crash. Thompson is also facing separate federal charges related to drugs and firearms found in the Escalade following the crash. This verdict comes after Thompson had been previously convicted for a different crash in California in 2018.
