Deputy sentenced to 10 years for hayrack ride crash

Former Iowa sheriff's deputy David Heady has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for his involvement in a hay rack ride accident that harmed multiple middle school students in Keokuk County. During his sentencing, Heady sought forgiveness and leniency, referencing Matthew 5:7. He and Daniel Brubaker hosted a Halloween party and hay rack ride for middle schoolers in 2023, where they were reportedly intoxicated and speeding. Brubaker drove during the incident. Tracy Pfannebecker, a mother of one of the injured girls, tearfully expressed her anguish in court. Investigators disclosed that Heady, then a deputy, tried to hide the crash's details. Heady received his 10-year sentence, showing little emotion. He expressed regret and pledged to make amends. The judge also ordered Heady not to contact the victims and to pay restitution.
