Deputy injured in second collision at I-80 crash site
In Polk County, Iowa, a series of vehicle accidents on I-80 led to the closure of eastbound lanes near Altoona and the Bass Pro Shop early Friday morning. During the collision response, a Polk County Sheriff's Deputy was injured in a second crash. The initial crash occurred before 1:30 a.m. with traffic diversion in place for drivers. The interstate reopened approximately four hours later. The Iowa State Patrol is still gathering details about the first crash, while at around 4:39 a.m., another vehicle collided with a deputy's marked patrol Tahoe at mile marker 140, where traffic control was being conducted. The deputy sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for assessment. The ISP is handling the investigation into both incidents.
