
Deputy from Wilkes County Hurt in Car Crash
In North Wilkesboro, a collision occurred on Sunday, September 7, around 3:55 p.m. The incident took place on NC 115 near Hunting Creek Road in Wilkes County. A 2003 Ford F-150 traveling north crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound 2009 Ford F-250 and a southbound 2024 Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department Chevrolet Tahoe. Darrell Dean Kilby, the driver of the F-150, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Kenneth Marshall Speece II, the driver of the F-250, was unharmed. Erik Bueno-Medina, the deputy driving the Tahoe, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation suggests that careless and reckless driving, as well as impairment, were contributing factors. Kilby was charged with driving while impaired and careless and reckless driving, with more charges anticipated pending further investigation and consultation with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s Office. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.
