Deputies: Woman dies at hospital after Alpine Township crash

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman died at the hospital and another was listed in critical condition after a crash in Alpine Township Tuesday afternoon, deputies say. It happened just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of 6 Mile Road and Bristol Avenue, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say an SUV was turning east from Bristol Avenue onto 6 Mile Road. That's when it crashed with an eastbound sedan, according to the sheriff's office. The SUV rolled over and the sedan went off the road. A 65-year-old Coopersville woman, who was sitting in the back of the sedan, was airlifted to the hospital, where she later died, deputies say. Her name was not released Wednesday. "We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim," the sheriff's office wrote in a release. According to the office, two other occupants of the sedan were also taken to the hospital: an elderly woman, who was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, and another occupant who suffered minor injuries. The driver of the SUV, a 55-year-old man from Comstock Park, was taken to the hospital for moderate injuries, deputies say. The intersection of 6 Mile and Bristol was closed following the crash but has since reopened, the sheriff’s office said.
