Decrease in deadly accidents during Tennessee's Fourth of July weekend.

According to recent data, the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported a significant decrease in fatal accidents during the Fourth of July holiday period in 2025 compared to the previous year. The Knox County Sheriff's Office noted only five injury-related accidents out of a total of 22 incidents they responded to over an 84-hour period. There were no fatal crashes or alcohol-related incidents reported by the sheriff's office during this time. Additionally, seven DUI arrests were made by the sheriff's office, along with 76 other arrests, while a total of 352 citations were issued. Statewide, THP reported a decrease in traffic fatalities, with four deaths recorded during the holiday period compared to 18 in 2024. THP troopers responded to 132 crashes and made 99 DUI arrests. In the THP Fall Branch District, which covers 14 counties in Northeast Tennessee, there was one fatal crash among 52 total incidents responded to, with three DUI arrests made. Colonel Matt Perry, Commander of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, emphasized that while the decline in fatalities is a positive development, efforts to enhance public safety remain ongoing.
