Death of Las Vegas resident in multiple vehicle collision in northern Nevada

A man from Las Vegas has passed away after a collision near mile marker 50, located between Austin and Battle Mountain. The incident involved a Jeep Cherokee, a Ford F-150, and a Freightliner commercial truck on July 20 around 4:30 p.m. Initial reports suggest that the Jeep veered into oncoming traffic, striking the northbound Ford F-150 which then collided with the Freightliner. This resulted in the Freightliner blocking both lanes after jackknifing. Sadly, the driver of the Ford, identified as 55-year-old William Benes of Las Vegas, was fatally injured in the crash. The drivers of the Jeep and Freightliner sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized. So far in 2025, Nevada Highway Patrol, Region Three, has investigated 13 fatal accidents resulting in a total of 15 deaths.
