Michael Sumler, who worked closely with the beloved soul-funk group Kool & the Gang for many years as both an onstage hype man and stylist, tragically passed away in a car accident in Georgia at the age of 71. The band's spokesperson confirmed his death. Reports from 11Alive, an Atlanta TV station, stated that the collision occurred on Veterans Memorial Highway in Cobb County, Georgia. Sumler, also known as Chicago Mike, had just performed in Mableton, GA, with the group Con Funk Shun before the accident happened. The band paid tribute to Sumler, describing him as their dedicated wardrobe valet and energetic crowd hypeman during his time with them from 2000 to 2015. Kool & the Gang, famous for hits like "Ladies Night" and "Celebration," has a rich musical history and was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
