Deadly scooter collision happens in the early hours of Saturday.
Early on Saturday morning, the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a tragic incident involving a fatal moped accident near North Avenue and 28 Road. The police reported that a man was found in the roadway near a moped at approximately 2:20 a.m. The driver was heading east on North Avenue, crossed the median, and crashed. Despite efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities are looking into the possibility of alcohol involvement in the crash. The road was closed for a few hours as the police investigated, reopening at approximately 6:23 a.m. The Mesa County Coroner's Office will provide more details once the family has been notified. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
