Deadly plane crash in Star City
The Arkansas State Police reported a fatal aircraft crash involving pilot James West, 53, from Star City. The incident occurred on Aug. 21, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. when West's homemade ultralight aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Star City Municipal Airport. Despite first responders' efforts to save him, West passed away from his injuries at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been informed and will spearhead the investigation into the crash's cause.
