Deadly hot-air balloon accident claims a minimum of 8 lives: 'We grieve'

A tragic incident occurred in Brazil's state of Santa Catarina when a hot-air balloon with 21 passengers caught fire and crashed, resulting in at least eight fatalities. The fire originated in the basket, prompting the pilot to initiate an emergency landing. Distressing footage shared on social media captures the balloon engulfed in black smoke as it descends rapidly towards a wooded area near Praia Grande. Fortunately, 13 individuals, including the pilot, survived and were taken to hospitals for treatment. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, while the hot-air balloon company, Sobrevoar, expressed profound grief over the tragedy and announced the suspension of its operations. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva offered condolences to the victims' families and assured federal support for the investigation.
