Deadly hit-and-run accidents highest in St. Louis
St. Louis City has been identified as having the highest rate of fatal hit-and-run accidents in the United States, based on a recent study by The Law Offices of Christopher Chaney. Their analysis revealed that a significant number of these incidents involve pedestrians and cyclists. A 2023 police report found that 40% of reported crashes in St. Louis City were deadly hit-and-runs. Other areas such as Shelby County, Tennessee; Bernalillo County, New Mexico; and Orleans Parish, Louisiana were also noted for their high rates of fatal hit-and-runs. On a national scale, a deadly hit-and-run occurs approximately every 43 seconds.
