Deadly helicopter crash on Mississippi River near St. Louis
A helicopter crash into a barge in the Mississippi River near East Alton, Illinois, resulted in the death of two individuals, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed the fatalities, with no other injuries reported. The crash caused the river to be closed to commercial navigation. Emergency responders were on the scene, and the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation. The Lewis and Clark Bridge into Illinois has been closed indefinitely. East Alton is roughly 20 miles north of St. Louis.
