Deadly head-on collision closes 5 Freeway in Burbank

A tragic accident caused by a driver going the wrong way resulted in the closure of all northbound lanes on the 5 Freeway in Burbank early Sunday morning. California Highway Patrol responded to the scene at Alameda Avenue around 3:45 a.m., where multiple vehicles were involved in the crash. One person was fatally injured, and three others were taken to a hospital with their conditions unspecified. CHP issued a two-hour closure of the northbound lanes, although the collector road was opened at 6 a.m. to ease traffic congestion. The investigation is ongoing to determine if impairment was a factor in the incident. This report includes contributions from Alexis Lewis and KTLA photojournalist Dan Lunsford.
