Deadly crash shuts down portion of I-88 in DuPage County

DUPAGE COUNTY, Ill. (WGN) — A portion of Interstate 88 was shut down early Tuesday morning after a deadly crash in DuPage County. According to Illinois State Police, the crash unfolded in the westbound lanes of Interstate 88, near Illinois Route 53, in Lisle, at around 4:30 a.m. Troopers said the crash involved two passenger vehicles and an occupant of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead on the scene.  A second occupant was taken to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries is unclear. Because of the crash, troopers briefly shut down all westbound lanes of I-88 near Route 53 and traffic was diverted onto I-355, all lanes reopened by 8:10 a.m. Authorities have not yet identified the individual killed and an investigation into the crash is currently underway.
