Deadly crash near SDSU prompts temporary shutdown of I-8 east
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- According to a Sig Alert from California Highway Patrol, Interstate 8 east was temporary shutdown on Thursday morning due to a deadly crash in the College Area. The incident, located east of the College Avenue exit, was first reported at 2:51 a.m. The crash involved two vehicles: a dark-colored sedan and a small SUV. As reported by CHP, a wrong-way driver allegedly crashed into another vehicle. The impact caused one of the vehicles to roll down the highway embankment, where it then crashed into a fence. At this time, the crash has been declared fatal. FOX 5/KUSI is still working to confirm just how many people were involved in the incident. Eastbound I-8 was completely closed for the emergency response, with traffic being diverted onto College Avenue. The interstate has since reopened in the area. This is a developing story. Please check back for more details.
