
Deadly crash involving semi, car on I-65 in Boone County
BOONE COUNTY, Ind. – A deadly crash closed part of southbound I-65 in Boone County. According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened near mile marker 149 about six miles north of Lebanon. Indiana State Police confirmed a fatality and said the crash involved a semi and a passenger vehicle. Investigators believe traffic was backed up and that a 2007 Ford struck the rear end of a stopped semi. The driver of the Ford was identified as 36-year-old Steven Gilreath Jr. of Fortville. Gilreath was pronounced dead on scene. The Indiana Department of Transportation initially said all southbound lanes were closed. The lanes were closed for nearly three hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared. The crash remains under investigation.
