Deadly crash involving New York City-bound tour bus
Several individuals, including at least one child, tragically lost their lives in a collision involving a tour bus bound for New York City on the New York Thruway on Friday. Reports indicate that the bus, carrying over 50 passengers, veered out of control and overturned near Pembroke, approximately 30 miles east of Buffalo. Eyewitnesses described seeing the bus lose control, veer across the median, and flip onto the southern shoulder, causing passengers to be expelled as the windows shattered. Authorities are collaborating with the driver, who survived the ordeal, to understand the circumstances leading to the incident. Among the passengers were children, with the grim news that at least one child was among the fatalities. Most passengers had Indian, Chinese, and Filipino backgrounds, and translators were dispatched to assist at the scene. The bus was on its journey back to New York City following a visit to Niagara Falls. Although the number of casualties remains uncertain, hospital officials disclosed that 20 patients were actively receiving medical attention, with various injuries such as head trauma and fractures. Governor Kathy Hochul and Senator Chuck Schumer are closely monitoring the situation. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, as well as the final count of casualties.
