Deadly crash in western Uganda leaves over 40 dead
A tragic accident occurred in western Uganda early Wednesday morning, involving two buses and two other vehicles, resulting in the loss of at least 46 lives, according to police. This incident is one of the most devastating motor accidents the country has experienced in recent years. Initially, police reported a death toll of 63, but later revised it to 46 after discovering that some individuals initially thought to be deceased were actually still alive. The crash occurred on a highway leading to Gulu, a major city in northern Uganda, when two bus drivers collided head-on while attempting to overtake other vehicles. This unfortunate event is a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the poor enforcement of traffic rules contributing to the high number of road crashes in the region. Efforts to raise awareness about road safety and prevent future tragedies are ongoing, as seen in campaigns led by individuals like road safety advocate Joseph Beyanga, who emphasized the need for greater enforcement and accountability on the roads.
