
Deadly car chase traverses two counties
In Pittsylvania, Virginia, the Virginia State Police are looking into a case involving a chase that started in Halifax County and ended in Pittsylvania County, resulting in a fatal crash between two vehicles. A trooper from Halifax County tried to pull over a speeding Kia SUV, but the vehicle fled to Pittsylvania County. The car was driving in the opposite direction before colliding head-on with a Ford Focus. Nelson Michael Smith, a 17-year-old from Providence, NC, was the driver of the Ford Focus and tragically passed away at the scene. The driver of the Kia SUV, Alton Willie Devone Wade, 26, from Sum Spring, Va, survived and was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police have charged Wade for Smith's death and for various offenses related to the pursuit. The Virginia State Police are actively investigating this incident.
