
Deadly bus crash on South African mountain road
A tragic bus crash on a steep mountain road in South Africa has led to the loss of at least 42 lives, including seven children, with a further 49 people sustaining injuries. The accident occurred near Louis Trichardt, located about 250 miles north of Pretoria, as the bus was en route to Zimbabwe on the N1 road. The cause of the crash remains unknown, with 18 women, 17 men, and six critically injured individuals among the victims. Immediate medical assistance was provided to the wounded, while authorities are investigating the incident. South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his heartfelt condolences to Zimbabwe and Malawi for their respective nationals who were affected. This unfortunate event took place during the country's transport month, emphasizing the importance of road safety. Notably, a similar incident in the Limpopo province last year resulted in 45 fatalities, with just one child surviving the crash.
