Deadly bus accident claims lives of many migrants returning to Afghanistan following deportation from Iran, authorities report
A tragic collision on a busy highway in western Afghanistan claimed the lives of seventy-eight people on Tuesday evening. The victims included women and 17 children, with one individual from the crash in critical condition. The incident involved a bus transporting Afghan migrants, a truck carrying petroleum that sparked a fire instantly, and a motorcycle. Following the accident, the Taliban confirmed the arrest of the transportation company's head responsible for the bus involved. The company's activities are suspended pending a government inquiry. Reports also revealed that the bus was carrying refugees who had recently been deported from neighboring Iran. The refugees were among thousands forced to leave Iran due to heightened tensions following the Israel-Iran conflict in June. Traffic accidents are unfortunately common in Afghanistan due to factors such as poor roads, dangerous driving habits, and lack of regulation. Increased risks of accidents are also attributed to overloaded buses and trucks. This recent incident marks one of the deadliest accidents in Afghanistan in recent years, as reported by the state-run Bakhtar News Agency.
