Deadly accident shuts down Sorrento Valley Road exit from northbound I-5
Authorities have announced that the off-ramp from I-5 north onto Sorrento Valley Road in San Diego was shut down Friday morning following a tragic accident. The California Highway Patrol has provided details of the incident, stating that a Hyundai Sonata was speeding on the freeway and crashed into a divider wall near the Sorrento Valley Road off-ramp shortly after 10 a.m. Local news source SkyFOX/KUSI captured aerial footage around 11 a.m. showing the car with significant damage, still blocking the off-ramp. Emergency responders on the scene administered life-saving measures, but the situation was updated to a fatality by CHP. Caltrans reported the off-ramp closure at 11 a.m., causing traffic congestion on I-5 back to Genesee Avenue. Drivers passing through observed debris on the road, prompting some to swerve to avoid it.
