Deadly accident shuts down Katy Freeway, another collision involving possible drunk driving
A tragic incident occurred on the Katy Freeway early Saturday resulting in significant traffic delays and a subsequent crash involving law enforcement vehicles. The initial accident involved a car that lost control on the HOV on-ramp from the Addicks Park & Ride, leading to a fatal crash on the Katy Freeway below. Due to the impact, the HOV ramp structure was damaged, necessitating the closure of the Katy Freeway near Highway 6 for several hours for investigation and cleanup. Meanwhile, two Constable vehicles were struck by another driver, suspected of driving under the influence, while blocking traffic to secure the area. Fortunately, no deputies were injured as there were no officers inside the vehicles at the time. The driver in the second crash was arrested for DWI. Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
