Deadly accident on I-95 Northbound in Indian River County
The north jetty at Sebastian Inlet State Park, a popular fishing spot on the barrier island, has reopened ahead of schedule, just in time for the upcoming Fourth of July weekend. The jetty underwent a $1.4 million repair job to rebuild the concrete and steel approach that extends into the ocean. The structure, which had a history dating back over a century, was a mix of old materials layered over time, including coquina and steel. Recent storms had caused damage to the structure, leading to emergency repairs two years ago. The renovation project was completed early by Shoreline Foundation, Inc., allowing the jetty to reopen earlier than expected. The renovated jetty now features new materials, including granite boulders and an aluminum railing reclaimed from the old walkway. The webcam that provides live images of the inlet will be reinstated soon. This project is part of a larger plan that includes improvements to the west and south jetties, funded by property taxes from residents within the Sebastian Inlet District.
