Deadly accident on I-5 in Modesto with SUV sinking into California Aqueduct
A man tragically lost his life in a collision with a vehicle that veered into a section of the California Aqueduct on Interstate 5 in Modesto early Tuesday morning. The incident was responded to by Modesto officers and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department's Dive Team for recovery efforts. The driver, a male individual yet to be officially identified, was discovered deceased inside a 2003 Nissan SUV while pulling a single-axle utility trailer. According to the initial investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver made an unsafe turn causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into the water. It is currently unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. The CHP reaffirmed their commitment to providing Safety, Service, and Security in times of crisis.
