Deadly Accident on I-10 Freeway at Cottonwood Springs Road in Chiriaco Summit

Accident Causes Closure of Westbound I-10 near Cottonwood Springs Road A serious accident involving multiple vehicles, including a pickup truck and a semi-truck, led to the shutdown of the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 on Friday afternoon near Cottonwood Springs Road, just west of Box Canyon Road, as reported by authorities. The California Highway Patrol disclosed that the incident occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m. when a white pickup truck collided with several vehicles at high speed. The crash resulted in one vehicle landing in a ditch, while a silver Volkswagen was found in the center divider. Tragically, one individual was pronounced dead at the scene, although their identity remains undisclosed pending notification of their next of kin. Emergency responders had to block several lanes to reach the crash site, including the No. 1 and 2 lanes, leading to significant traffic congestion. To manage the situation, vehicles were temporarily rerouted to the right-hand shoulder. A SigAlert was later issued by the CHP due to the seriousness of the collision and ensuing lane closures. Tow trucks and evidence collection units, along with heavy-duty support for the big rig involved, were dispatched to the scene. An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently ongoing.
