Deadly Accident on 10 Freeway, Close to Date Palm Drive
Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic crash involving a large truck and multiple vehicles that occurred Thursday morning on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 Freeway near Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City, California. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was alerted to the incident at 6:48 a.m. when a big rig reportedly veered from the westbound side of the freeway, tipping over and obstructing the eastbound lanes, leading to a chain reaction collision involving multiple vehicles. Responding emergency teams, including Cal Fire and CHP units, arrived at the scene. Sadly, by 7:05 a.m., two fatalities were confirmed, and authorities called in the Riverside County Coroner's Office. To facilitate the investigation and clean-up process, a SigAlert was issued, signaling the prolonged closure of all eastbound lanes. Hazmat specialists were brought in as a precautionary measure due to concerns about the overturned truck's cargo, and traffic diversions were arranged using Changeable Message Signs (CMS). Plaza Tow II was enlisted to help with vehicle retrieval, with a heavy-duty tow truck standing by. Traffic congestion mounted at Date Palm Drive as emergency personnel worked diligently to manage the scene and commence a thorough probe into the causes of the rollover incident. As the victims' identities are pending notification of their families, drivers are advised to steer clear of the area and identify alternative routes.
