Deadly accident in Sri Lanka: 21 killed and 35 injured as bus plunges off cliff.

In the hills of Sri Lanka's tea-growing region, a tragic incident occurred when a passenger bus slid off a cliff near Kotmale, resulting in the loss of 21 lives and injuries to 35 others. The accident took place on Sunday morning, approximately 86 miles east of Colombo, the country's capital, in a mountainous area. Police authorities confirmed the casualties and stated that an investigation has been initiated to determine whether the crash was caused by the driver's negligence or a bus malfunction. The bus, belonging to a government-operated bus service, tumbled to the base of a gorge, prompting a rescue operation by workers and onlookers to aid those injured. Unfortunately, the driver was also hurt and is receiving medical care along with the other survivors. Tragic bus accidents are not uncommon in Sri Lanka, particularly in rugged terrains, often attributed to careless driving and poorly maintained roads.
