Fatal Crash involving Semi-Truck and SUV Closes Section of State Route 4 in San Joaquin County A tragic accident between a semi-truck and an SUV led to a fatality early Friday morning on Highway 4 near the Middle River Bridge in Discovery Bay. The collision occurred around 3:25 a.m. on August 8th. Initial details suggest that a white GMC Yukon collided with a semi-truck hauling a 1,600-gallon water tank. The semi-truck came to a halt partially off the road, resulting in scattered debris, including glass fragments on the highway. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene and reported that the driver of the semi, believed to be a bald man in his 40s wearing shorts and a blue shirt, left on foot heading westbound. A search was launched utilizing resources such as drones and air support by law enforcement, including the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, emergency crews found at least one person with fatal injuries, though it is unknown which vehicle the victim was in. The eastbound lanes were shut down initially, with traffic controlled one-way for several hours. The roadway was fully reopened by 7:56 a.m. Following the incident, authorities have yet to release the victim's identity and are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash and whether factors like impairment were involved.
