Dante Montoya's Fate: Community Grieves South San Bobcats’ Coach as Online Tributes Pour In after Accident

A report surfaced on Facebook on October 26 regarding the passing of South San Antonio High School coach Dante Montoya. John C. Garcia shared the news in the Mighty South San Bobcats alumni group, stating that Coach Montoya had tragically passed away after an accident while returning to San Antonio from watching his son play at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Despite a request from Phil Barron, the Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator at South San Antonio High School, to remove the post out of respect for Montoya's family, Garcia refused, claiming his posts were not offensive. Following this, admin of the alumni group, Tavor PumpkinMaster Gabriel, shared a tribute post, and group members expressed their condolences to Montoya's family in the comments. The San Antonio High School community is mourning the loss of Coach Dante Montoya, a well-respected figure who was named Region 8 Assistant Coach of the Year by the THSCA. Montoya, a San Antonio native, East Central High School alumnus, Texas A&M University–Kingsville graduate, and assistant coach at South San since 2023, was married to Leslie Lovering Montoya. As of now, no official statements have been released by South San Antonio High School or the Montoya family regarding his passing.
