Danbury woman killed in Ridgefield crash was devoted mother of four, cancer survivor

Nehemias Muruzumbay of Danbury, who died in a car crash in Ridgefield Sunday, was a mother of four children who worked at the Connecticut Institute for Communities in Danbury, family members said Tuesday. Muruzumbay, 32, lost control of the Honda CR-V she was driving south on Route 7 and crashed into a vacant building, Ridgefield police said. Officers responded to the single-car crash at around 7 p.m. Muruzumbay was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries and later died, police said. Rolando Muruzumbay said his sister was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., one of four siblings. The family moved to Danbury when Nehemias Muruzumbay, known as Lynette, was about 5 years old, he said. She was working for the Connecticut Institute's early childhood education program, her sister, Sandra Muruzumbay, said. Rolando Muruzumbay said Nehemias had just started getting her life back on track after a divorce and had moved into an apartment with her children, ages 3-17. "She was a very happy person," he said. "Her kids came first. She would spoil them with everything they wanted." She also was a cancer survivor, her sister said. "She was loved by her kids and sister and brother, who always supported her," Sandra Muruzumbay said. A GoFundMe page for Nehemias Muruzumbay's funeral expenses and to provide support to her children had raised $6,955 raised of its $12,000 goal as of 5:10 p.m. Tuesday. "She was a loving, hardworking, single mom who dedicated everything she had to raise her 4 beautiful children," it said. "This unimaginable loss has left her family facing not only overwhelming grief, but also unexpected financial burdens. We are asking for support to help cover funeral expenses and to provide stability and care for her children and her family during this incredibly difficult time" Sandra Muruzumbay said the funeral is set for 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home, 117 South St., Danbury.
