CSPD: Motorcyclist identified from fatal high-speed crash
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A 33-year-old man was identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash that took place on Saturday, May 16, near the intersection of North Circle Drive and East Van Buren Street, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). According to police, on May 18, the coroner identified the motorcyclist, who had died at the scene of the crash, as John Ruhe. CSPD reported police responded to the scene of the crash a little before 1 a.m. on May 16, where initial indications showed that the motorcycle had been speeding northbound on North Circle Drive in the left lane when it crossed the southbound lanes and hit a guardrail. The Major Crash Team noted that the high speeds appeared to be a contributing factor in the crash. This incident remains an open and active investigation. It is the 22nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time in 2025, there had been 14 traffic deaths.
