CSP reveals details of deadly accident on US 287.
The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) has provided details about a recent crash that happened on Wednesday, Jan. 21, leading to the closure of US highways 287 and 385. The incident occurred in Baca County, just north of the Oklahoma border around 11:30 p.m., resulting in a tragic collision. CSP indicated that a Peterbilt semi, carrying a trailer, crossed the center line on US 287, colliding head-on with another Peterbilt traveling in the opposite direction. Following the crash, one of the trucks caught fire, while a Volvo semi had to swerve off the road to avoid the wreckage. Unfortunately, the driver of the southbound Peterbilt lost his life in the accident. CSP is investigating the incident with details on the conditions of the other two drivers pending. Witnesses are encouraged to contact CSP if they have information. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced the reopening of the affected highways after the incident ended, with partial access given to one side of the road for now. Drivers should anticipate delays and exercise caution when traveling through the affected area.
