Criticism over UK police for failing to arrest US diplomat's wife in deadly accident

The review found that the decision not to arrest Sacoolas was partially based on her state of shock, even though the officers believed the victim's injuries were survivable. The review also criticized the former chief of the Northamptonshire force for his handling of the case, which negatively impacted the investigation and trust between the parties involved. After returning to the US, Sacoolas refused to return to the UK for court proceedings, eventually pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving via video link and receiving a suspended prison sentence.
