Crashes in Sheboygan County: 17 vehicles in heavy fog
A series of multiple collisions involving seventeen vehicles occurred in Sheboygan County on Thursday morning, Aug. 7. The Sheboygan County deputies responded to numerous 911 calls reporting the crashes in Sheboygan Falls just after 7:30 a.m. Initially, there were at least nine vehicles involved in a crash on State Highway 23 eastbound at Sunset Road. The incident was caused by a 79-year-old Sheboygan woman who made a U-turn in front of another vehicle, leading to a chain-reaction crash involving five more vehicles. A 37-year-old woman from Glenbeulah and two children in her car sustained injuries in the crash and were hospitalized, while a 22-year-old man in another vehicle was also taken to the hospital. The 79-year-old driver was cited for failure to yield right of way, causing injury. In total, there were three separate accidents, with the initial crash attributed to fog and subsequent crashes due to vehicles slowing down near the primary accident scene. The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating these incidents, and the affected area was closed for almost five hours.
