Country singer accused in fatal Nashville collision
Country music singer Conner Smith has been charged with a misdemeanor in connection to a tragic incident where a 77-year-old woman was struck and killed in Nashville's Germantown neighborhood. Smith, who is 24 years old, is facing a charge of failure to yield the right of way resulting in death, a Class A misdemeanor, as reported by the Metro Nashville Police Department. The citation was issued by the MNPD Traffic Division on Thursday night. The incident occurred on June 8 when Dorothy "Dot" Dobbins was in a marked crosswalk and was hit by a truck. Despite the unfortunate event, witnesses noted that Smith rushed to assist Dobbins until medical help arrived. Sadly, Dobbins passed away after being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Authorities confirmed that there was no evidence suggesting Smith was impaired or driving distracted. Smith and his lawyer have expressed their gratitude for the MNPD's investigation and have emphasized their cooperation throughout. Smith has also extended his condolences to Dobbins' family while stressing his commitment to promoting pedestrian safety and preventing similar tragedies in the future. Smith is scheduled to be processed for the citation on August 7, according to the MNPD.
