Country music artist Conner Smith, widely recognized for his hit song "I Hate Alabama" on TikTok, has been identified by Nashville police as the driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal pedestrian accident. According to a media release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Smith, 24, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado when he struck a 77-year-old pedestrian named Dorothy Dobbins while she was crossing a marked roadway in Downtown Nashville around 7:30 pm on June 8. Unfortunately, Dobbins, a nearby resident, was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center following the accident. Smith, a Nashville native, was reported to be heading northbound and failed to yield the right of way. The MNPD stated that Smith did not show signs of impairment. As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation is still ongoing. Smith's representatives have not yet responded to TODAY.com's request for comment. Known for his rising success in the music industry, Smith gained popularity in 2021 with "I Hate Alabama" and released his debut album "Didn’t Go Too Far" shortly after. He has made appearances on TODAY as part of the Citi Music Series in 2022 and 2024. Currently on tour, Smith has upcoming live performances scheduled across the country this summer, with his next show set for June 14 in Fort Myers, Florida.
