Contractor dies in dump truck accident on Highway 610 in Maple Grove
A construction worker tragically lost their life in Maple Grove on Thursday after being struck and killed by a dump truck in a construction zone on Highway 610. The eastbound lanes of Highway 610 are closed until approximately 6 p.m. due to the incident. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) had initially reported the closure of Interstate 94 eastbound, but later updated their website to clarify that the closure was on Highway 610 between Interstate 94 and Maple Grove Parkway. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. when the contractor was hit by the dump truck while on foot in the construction zone. Unfortunately, the contractor did not survive the incident. No other vehicles were involved, and the accident occurred within a closed construction area on the highway. Traffic cameras and updates on MnDOT's website show significant congestion in the area due to the closure. The identity of the contractor has not been released, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation. This incident follows another tragic construction-related death on Wednesday when Pierre Mack, 29, of St. Paul, was killed while working in a construction zone on Interstate 35W in Burnsville. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Mack was struck and killed by a construction truck with a boom that was reversing at the time.
