Connecticut man dies in single-vehicle crash on I-95 in Hanover County

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Connecticut man died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday morning on Interstate 95 in Hanover County. At 9:08 a.m. on Sunday, March 23, Virginia State Police (VSP) received a call reporting a crash on I-95 North, just north of Lewistown Road in Hanover County. According to VSP's investigation, it was indicated that a 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ran off the right side of the interstate and hit several trees, which resulted in the vehicle catching fire. State police identified the driver as 53-year-old Tiffany Jerome Benincasa of Greenwich, Connecticut, who was found outside of the vehicle with minor injuries. She was treated for her injuries on the scene by Hanover County Fire-EMS. The passenger, identified as the driver's husband, 60-year-old James D. Benincasa, also of Greenwich, was found dead inside of the vehicle. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation by Virginia State Police.
