Congo boat accident claims over 100 lives in second tragic capsizing.
In the northwestern Equateur province of Congo this week, two separate boat accidents tragically claimed the lives of at least 193 individuals, with many more missing. The first incident occurred when a boat carrying nearly 500 passengers caught fire and overturned along the Congo River in Lukolela territory. Fortunately, 209 survivors were rescued. The following day, another boat capsized in Basankusu territory, resulting in the deaths of at least 86 people, mostly students. Both accidents were attributed to factors like improper loading and night navigation. The ongoing issue of frequent boat accidents in Congo is a growing concern, with overloaded wooden vessels and lack of safety measures exacerbating the risks for passengers.
