Conan O'Brien's Car Accident with Eddie Murphy

Conan O'Brien shared a story on his podcast with John Mulaney about a close encounter he had with Eddie Murphy in the 1980s that could have led to a car accident. O'Brien described the incident where he nearly hit a car carrying Murphy while doing an illegal U-turn near Paramount on Gower Street. They discussed the timing of the event and referenced the movies being released at the time, with Mulaney noting that The Golden Child and Three Amigos were both out on the same weekend in 1986. The Golden Child, starring Murphy as detective Chandler Jarrell, followed a mystical rescue mission, while Three Amigos featured Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short as mistaken cowboy movie stars. Despite both films being released on the same day, The Golden Child outperformed Three Amigos at the box office. This moment was later revisited in 2019 when Murphy reunited with his young co-star Jasmin L. Reate from The Golden Child at the Toronto International Film Festival.
