Collision in DC between National Guard vehicle and car

A collision took place near the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., involving a National Guard vehicle and a civilian car early on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred at the intersection of Eighth Street SE and North Carolina Avenue SE, as confirmed by the Capital's Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department. The civilian driver was rescued from the car and taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to the incident at 6:18 a.m. EDT where they found a government vehicle involved in a two-car crash. The driver of the civilian car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. The National Guard reported that the military vehicle involved was a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle as part of a convoy with other vehicles. The National Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident. Mayor Muriel Bowser who leads Washington, D.C., mentioned at a press conference later that day about the incident, stating that one person had been taken for medical attention. President Trump's decision to deploy National Guard troops in the city in response to rising crime led to nearly 2,000 troops being present in Washington, D.C.
